Middle School - "The Power"

Big Idea: Jesus has all power and authority and He empowers us to do His work!

2. Jesus grants us His power and authority to do His work!
   Eph. 1:16-20 - resurrection power! Matthew 28:18-20 - We are sent by Christ with His authority! It comes down to fearing God more than we fear man. - Matthew 10:28

High School - "The Son of God Has Authority to Heal" (Mark 2:1-3:12)

Big Idea: Jesus has authority to heal those with sick hearts!

1. Jesus has the authority and power to heal paralyzed hearts (2:1-12; 3:1-6) Forgiveness of sins is our very deepest need!! Jesus has the authority and power to save anyone!! Even the most unlikely converts
   Jesus can heal those with hard hearts! If only they realize their spiritual sickness.
2. Jesus is on mission for the spiritually sick (and we should be too) (2:13-17)
   Problem is - most people do not like to think of themselves as broken and sinful
   As we reach out to the lost in love...
   We do need to guard against temptation -
   Psalm 1:1 Since Jesus heart is to save the sin-sick heart, and we are the instruments He has chosen to use, we must be with sinners.
   There is a difference between spending time with sinful people in order to share Jesus with them, and just hanging out with absolutely no agenda.
3. Jesus is The Bridegroom and The Lord! (2:18-28; 3:7-12) Jesus kingdom is very different from any other kingdom that has ever existed.
   Despite His humility, Jesus did not shy away from claiming to be God.
   In 2:19-21, Jesus assumes a title that belonged to God - He refers to Himself as the bridegroom or “husband” (OT imagery between God and Israel) Jesus shows us here that the Law is designed to bring man closer to God, to help in the salvation of sinful hearts (3:1-6)
   The Law is designed to take us to Christ, who is our mediator and He alone can take us to God. His substitutionary death!!
   Calvin - "We are not at liberty to imagine to ourselves a Christ that corresponds to our fancy, but ought simply to embrace him as he is offered by the Father. "
