I found this post on my old xanga site, which was written the day before Easter, 2006...
The Second Day
As I think of the Easter story, I guess today would be the day between the
day Jesus died and the day He rose from the dead. So today I am thinking about
the fact that this was a day that He was simply dead. These days we proclaim,
"Jesus is alive!!!" but I am thinking about what this day means in the Easter
story and I realize that nobody was proclaiming that there was a living Savior.
As I ponder that, I wonder a couple of things.
What if it was like that day (the day between His death and resurrection)
everyday? Where there just seemed to be no hope, no savior...for the disciples,
quite possibly a feeling of wasted time...they had been in ministry with Jesus
for a few years and it makes you wonder if on that day they were wondering if it
would have been better to just stick with their day jobs. For His followers,
those who listened to Him as part of the crowds, there could have been a myriad
of emotions. Outrage or perhaps a feeling of being duped, time wasted, etc
etc. or maybe just a general apathy.
There was also insecurity. Pilate had a guard put at the tomb because there
had been talk of Him raising from the dead. Obviously, they were no match for
the living Christ!
As you go through today, I hope that you realize what today means in this
important Easter story. And that though today represents a day of a whole
spectrum of emotions because He is dead, as always in life, we can look forward
to tomorrow, because as all of us know, tomorrow, He lives!!
