Lesson Loop 6.29.12

Wow. It has been forever since I have done a lesson loop. Sorry about that. In case you are not familiar, this is simply a short blog post that describes what our students learned this week in our student ministry. So, here it is.

This week in our student ministry:

Third Place: because of vbs this week, we took the week off.

Lucid: Red Carpet Night & "Do Unto Others"
We had a great time getting to know eachother through a couple mixer games - One where they all took turns adding to a picture of a ficticious animal, and one where they found things in common with other students.
All in all it was an excellent night where we had at least 10 of the upcoming 6th grade students.

The lesson was about "Doing unto others as we would have them do unto us", otherwise known as the "golden rule." We dug a little deeper and saw that this is actually written in the context of loving your enemies. That is tough to do, but we were all challenged to follow Christ's instructions and love everyone. Then the students acted out passages where Christ taught us how to treat others -

  • Matthew 5:7 - Be Merciful to Others
  • Matthew 5:21-22 - Don't get angry and watch what you say; anger is a sin that is made of the same stuff as murder, in fact all murder begins with anger.
  • Matthew 5:38-48 - Forgive and give up your rights for the kingdom's cause
  • Luke 6:31 - The golden rule - actually in the context of loving your enemies.

Here is an informative survey about teens and how they hide their internet usage from their parents. Check it out and let me know what you think.
